The close-up we showed was of an LED luminaire, and, in this case, an LED luminaire used to stimulate grass growth.
LED light has the advantage that it is electrically charged, which is why it instantly produces the light colour and light intensity one requires and at a fraction of the cost compared to conventional light sources. HPS or incandescent light bulbs have to warm up and cool down, which consumes a lot of energy while nothing is being delivered.
All aspects of LED light can be precisely defined and controlled, e.g., the light colour, wave length, light intensity, and light stability. This allows suppliers of LED floodlights to use different settings to illuminate training sessions or games that are being televised. Suppliers of LED grass grow technology have embraced this ability to produce various types of light to either stimulate root growth or grass length or to stimulate the germination of grass plants.
Flexible in use
LED lights also have the advantage that they can produce virtually any colour of light at the flick of a switch. It’s an ability that has been embraced by producers of light shows, and, in our case, suppliers of LED grass grow technology.
LED light can also be directed more precisely to avoid light spill or light pollution.
LED lights can be switched on and off as often as one likes. This frequent switching on and off does not affect the output of the light or the lifetime of the luminaire.
No failure
The depreciation an LED luminaire over a lifetime is so little that manufacturers are in a position to guarantee the light meeting all standards throughout its lifetime by setting the initial output a little higher than required.
An LED luminaire doesn’t produce heat, as is often experienced with HPS or incandescent light bulbs. Having said that, the control box that holds all the technology to control the light can produce unwanted heat. While this heat can impact its immediate surroundings or environment, there are solutions out there where the control box is placed away from the luminaire itself (to avoid heat build-up underneath the venue canopy).
Another advantage of LED luminaires is that they consist of numerous LEDs. Where the failure of an HPS or incandescent light bulb means the light is out, failure of multiple LEDs will still not affect the output the luminaire produces.
Irrespective of its specific use, LED technology is hailed for its cost-saving ability and flexibility in use.
