Chinese synthetic turf manufacturer VivaTurf has opened a subsidiary in Egypt: VivaTurf Synthetic Grass Egypt Co., Ltd. The factory is located in the Sokhna Integrated Industrial Zone, which falls under the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The plant covers 8,000 square metres and has the capacity to produce 3 million square metres of synthetic turf per year. The project is expected to generate around 140 jobs in total, split between 120 direct positions and 20 indirect ones. VivaTurf is a FIFA Licensee and a FIH certified turf manufacturer.
Boosting local manufacturing
Speaking at the opening, Madbouly framed the investment as part of a broader push to expand Egypt’s base of locally manufactured goods and to keep pace with growing demand from the sports and leisure industries. He argued that diversifying the country’s industrial activity helps build a production base equipped to meet market needs while keeping prices competitive.
Global player
According to the company, Vivaturf supplies synthetic turf for stadiums around the world and has developed its own recycling process for the product. Founded in 2008, the company runs two production bases and two research and development centres globally, with a combined annual output of roughly 50,000 tons of grass fibres and 30 million square metres of synthetic turf. Its operations span the full production chain, from research and development through to manufacturing and installation.
SCZONE’s perspective
Moustafa Shaikhon, chairman of SCZONE, described the project as adding a specialised manufacturing activity built around synthetic fibres, which he said helps diversify production within the Sokhna Industrial Zone. He suggested that VivaTurf’s expertise could help grow the sector inside SCZONE more broadly and encourage related industries to set up nearby.
Shaikhon added that VivaTurf’s choice to build a production base in SCZONE illustrates the zone’s capacity to host specialised industrial investment, offering companies an integrated manufacturing environment along with the supporting services they need.
