A staggering 75 football fields in the Valencia region have been rendered unusable by the recent storms.
Solidarity within the sports community has shone through as Valencia FC has opened its Paterna training complex to its youth teams, since Buñol’s synthetic turf fields have been badly damaged and are no longer fit for use.
Salvador Gomar, president of the Football Federation of the Valencian Community, reported in an interview with Radioestadio Noche that nearly 20,000 player licenses have been affected by the storm’s devastation.
The province of Valencia faces an estimated €20 million in recovery costs for the 75 affected fields, Gomar confirmed to EFE. Fields are overwhelmed with mud, scattered debris, and abandoned vehicles, leaving artificial turf fields in total disarray.
Spanish football entities have again demonstrated support for DANA storm victims by forming a crisis committee, including representatives from the RFEF, LALIGA, Liga F, the Valencian Football Federation, which has been hit hardest, and the Castilla La Mancha Football Federation. This committee will evaluate the damage, support reconstruction efforts, and offer aid wherever possible.
The committee’s focus will be on providing equipment and personnel to clubs and organizations, aiming to restore normal activities swiftly.
At present, the primary focus remains on locating missing persons and helping families who have lost everything. Damage assessments on sports facilities will begin once a minimum level of normalcy is restored. Currently, it’s known that at least 105 football and futsal facilities have been affected.
This initiative is led by Valencian Federation President Salvador Gomar and Castilla La Mancha Federation President Pablo Burillo, with the goal of aiding those impacted by this disaster and offering comprehensive support to the football community in these challenging times.
