About the Role
We are looking for an experienced person to join our growing team in Brisbane. You will play a crucial role in leading, analysing and developing sports turf projects. In this key position, you will be involved in the design, construction (site inspections) and delivery of high-quality playing surfaces, ensuring they are operationally ready to meet the diverse needs of clubs and community. Working closely with the Senior Scientific Consultant, you will also have budgetary responsibilities and a focus on effective leadership and people management. It is expected you will drive excellence in turf management, creating environments that enhance athletic performance and spectator experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialised advice on the design, construction and maintenance of sports turf surfaces, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Conduct thorough site assessments of existing turf conditions and identifying areas for improvement and recommending appropriate solutions.
- Perform soil testing and analysis to determine amendment and nutrient requirements.
- Develop site specific turf management plans, including irrigation strategies, pest/disease/weed control and seasonal maintenance.
- Oversee turf construction projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards and technical specifications throughout the construction process.
- Advocate for and implement sustainable turf management practices, promoting environmental stewardship and resource conservation.
- Educate clients and facility managers on turf care techniques, providing training and resources for effective ongoing maintenance.
- Collaborate with landscape architects, sports facility managers, and other stakeholders, to deliver integrated solutions that meet client needs.
- Stay updated on the latest research, technologies, and trends in sports turf management to enhance service offerings and client outcomes.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients, summarising findings, budgets, recommendations and project progress.
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in Turf Management and/or Horticulture Management are highly desirable.
- Research and Development Experience: Proven track record in managing research and development projects related to sports turf and irrigation.
- Have experience in tendering, planning and project management.
- Advanced Turf Analysis Skills: Extensive experience in warm-season grasses, weeds and soil and turf biology.
- Client Portfolio Growth: Demonstrated ability to expand and enhance the client portfolio through strategic outreach and relationship building.
- Problem-Solving Expertise: Strong problem-solving skills with a confident approach to decision-making.
- Stakeholder Relationship Development: Ability to cultivate and maintain ongoing relationships with external stakeholders, including stadiums, community clubs, contractors and local councils etc.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and iPad operations.
- Open drivers licence; and
- Possess or be willing to gain a First Aid Certificate, ACDC licence and WHS White Card.
