The document shows the requirements for FIFA Quality, FIFA Quality Pro, FA Performance Standard, FA Performance Standard Small Sided and FA Performance Standard Recreational.

Notably absent is the FIFA Basic standard, which allows the use of a synthetic turf product that can be used by both grassroots football and grassroots hockey clubs. FIFA and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) have agreed that, once approved for FIFA Basic, such a synthetic turf surface can also be used for grassroots football and FIH Category 4 fields.

Small change

The updated FA document shows little variation between the criteria for the various quality standards. The one that stands out is the ball roll (length), where the FA allows a maximum of 14m for an FA Performance Standard field. This is almost double the length that FIFA Quality Pro fields are allowed.

The document can be downloaded from the FA website and is also available in our library on this page.
