Sustainable adhesives on display

Contrary to the adhesives that were used to produce a synthetic turf carpet five to ten years ago, today’s adhesives are much more ecofriendly and more sustainable, and facilitate the reuse of reclaimed end-of-life turf, Robert Edge of EnviroStik says.

Earlier this year, the English producer of adhesives for synthetic turf, introduced a product that is made of reclaimed synthetic turf. “It helps us close the loop on our industry for a circular economy,” he says. The company has worked on the formula for several years.

Edge points out that the new adhesive is more or less, the same price as standard adhesives that are currently being used. However, Edge doesn’t want to focus on price for the product. “The few cents that this new product might cost more per bucket compared to a standard but more polluting or reusable product, are negligible.”

On average, all costs associated with glue work out to approximately GBP 1,000 per field. “You need approximately 100 buckets of glue to glue the between 23 and 27 seams per field. This investment can’t be a showstopper for anybody keen on investing in a more sustainable surface.”
