Greenfields has finished the new Pure PT synthetic turf pitch for the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curaçao with some infill. Thanks to that addition, it managed to meet FIFA Quality requirements.
Pure PT is actually the non-fill product that Greenfields and TenCate Grass firmly believe in. However, FIFA currently maintains the position that these, like mineral-stabilised or mineral filled pitches, are not yet good enough to be permitted. Its most recent Football Turf Quality Handbook stated that, “These types of pitches are not yet approved, and, as such, cannot be awarded FIFA Quality or FIFA Quality Pro certification.”
As the Ergilio Hato Stadium is a stadium pitch, a FIFA certificate was required.
Olive seed infill
Asked why a non-filled product was awarded a FIFA certificate, a spokesperson for the world football governing body pointed out the full name of the product: GreenFields Pure PT S 38 250 Olive SB (with dyed lines): a synthetic turf carpet filled in with a thin layer of olive seeds.
The layer of infill offers players more torsion and stability.
Sportsfields.info has been told that no sand was added, as, according to TenCate Grass, this is too abrasive on the fibre.
In Curaçao, the system has now been well received. The new pitch recently made its debut during two decisive Concacaf Nations League matches. Thanks to two big wins, national coach Dick Advocaat’s team secured a spot in the 2025 Gold Cup.
