The National Sports Authority (NSA) of Ghana is planning to secure pitch covers for Ghana’s major stadiums.
Stadia pitches that need to be covered include the Accra Sports Stadium, Aliu Mahama Stadium, Essipong Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Stadium, and Cape Coast Stadium.
Inadequate maintenance and the absence of protective covers have affected several pitches in the country. Some have even been declared unfit. Concerns are now being raised about the sustainability of the pitches to host games.
“We are in the process of acquiring pitch covers for our stadia. In the past, maybe it was an oversight, and that is why we don’t have some at the moment, but for now, we are making arrangements to get them,” NSA Director Ampofo Ankrah told a local radio station.
He stressed that the move is aimed at preventing further deterioration of the facilities.
“We don’t want our pitches to deteriorate, as we’ve witnessed in the past,” he added.
