Greenkeeper academy delivers first graduates

Students at the Greenkeeper Academy in Warth wrote their final exams in October to become a state-recognized sports ground manager. After a year of training, seven people are the first certified sports field attendants in Austria to ensure that sports fields will also be properly taken care for.

The academy has been in existence for many years. “For over 30 years, the Greenkeeper Academy has been a prime example of successful cooperation in the field of education, where the Agricultural College (LFS) Warth works optimally with the WIFI. It is all the more gratifying that the range of training courses has now been expanded to include sports field attendants, ”emphasizes Regional Education Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister. “I warmly congratulate the new sports field attendants on passing the exam and wish them every success and enjoyment in their nature-loving profession,” said Teschl-Hofmeister.

“Since very similar knowledge and skills are required for the professional maintenance of golf courses and sports fields, the training program at the Greenkeeper Academy Warth was expanded to include sports field attendants”, explains specialist teacher Karl Lobner, head of the Greenkeeper Academy Warth. “The sports field attendants have a great responsibility in their work, as the lawn is a very sensitive ecosystem and needs to be looked after with expert know-how,” informs course instructor Günther Kodym.

The one-year training includes building engineering, irrigation, fertilization, grass cutting technology, restoration work and maintenance management. In addition, practical lessons on the sports field round off the course.
