NZ: Grounds person

Hutt City in Wellington is seeking a Groundsperson to look after the natural sports fields at Fraser Park Sportsville, home of the Ricoh Sports Centre. This is a key sports venue for Hutt City, covering 16 hectares and hosting rugby, league, football, touch, cricket and softball games.

We’re looking for a Groundsperson who takes pride in their work, is passionate about sports field maintenance and preparation and who has the drive to deliver excellent customer service.

You’re likely to be a sports enthusiast, with an interest in and understanding of sporting code field requirements.

Under the guidance of our Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for general sports turf maintenance, irrigation, cricket wicket and softball renovations and preparation, line marking, top dressing and fertiliser application, decompaction and scarification.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience working in sports field maintenance and with cricket wickets
  • A clean Class 1 licence
  • A positive, flexible approach
  • A focus on maintenance and cleanliness of plant and equipment
  • The ability to work independently to get the job done
  • A focus on health and safety
  • The ability to interact positively with sports clubs and members of the public at all times
  • A sports turf qualification level 3 or 4 (preferred)

To be successful, you must be fit and healthy, honest and reliable and willing to work outdoors in all weathers. There will be the requirement to work some weekends on a planned roster basis.

Training in the operation of specific plant and machinery will be provided as required.

Mexteds pays the Living Wage or above. Remuneration will be based on previous experience and qualifications. You will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
