Job Title: Skilled Grounds Person
Department: Grounds Staff
Location: The Alan Higgs Centre
Reporting to: Head of Grounds
Hours of work: 40 hours per week and must be prepared to work anti-social hours and weekends.

An exciting position is available as Coventry City Football Club are looking to recruit a Skilled Grounds Person to work within the Grounds department.
This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the daily management and maintenance of the academy pitches at the Alan Training Ground and its surrounding landscapes. This is all part of a larger investment by the club into the grounds department.
Reporting to the Head of Grounds, the successful candidate will work in a team of Seven staff across 2 sites and ideally have a minimum of 2/3 years’ experience working in grounds maintenance.
Experience of working in a professional football club or similar sports facility is preferred.
Salary is within the GMA guidelines.
Professional development will be encouraged.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:
KEY TASKS:
- Liaising with the Head of Grounds and the rest of the team daily
- The preparation and maintenance to a high standard of the natural pitch surfaces including as appropriate:
- Grass cutting
- Marking Out
- Re-seeding
- Spraying of Chemicals
- Fertiliser Application
- Verti-cutting
- Brushing
- Control of irrigation system
- General maintenance of workshop and machinery, ensuring that all tools and equipment are stored safely and securely when not in use and are maintained in good working order.
- Compliance with statutory record keeping and internal procedures relating to pitch preparation and maintenance.
- Horticultural work if required around surrounding car parks
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the industry
- Application of frost sheets
- Deputising in the absence of Head of Grounds
Person Specification:
- NVQ Level 2 Horticulture/Sports Turf or equivalent qualification
- PA Spraying experience
- Good communication skills and a good ability to carry out instructions
- The ability to work as part of a team but also on your own with good initiative
- Ability to work independently and be self-driven within a team structure
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Be self-motivated with a positive attitude
- The ability to multitask and prioritise appropriately
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 3 Sports Turf or equivalent qualification
- PA1/PA2/PA6A Spraying qualification or equivalent is desirable.
- Experience in working within Football on championship/premiership pitches is desirable
- Inspiring your team and creating a positive working environment
- Ensure awareness and knowledge of best practice and participate in training activities as required by your manager.
Candidates are required to hold a full Driving Licence
