Groundsman (rugby)

We are Newcastle Falcons one of the Premiership rugby teams. We are looking to recruit an additional dedicated groundsperson to maintain the appearance functional soundness of our elite sporting facility.

Salary & benefits: depending on experience.

Based at: Kingston Park Stadium, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 8AF

The grounds person is responsible for maintaining all grass and 3G pitches, equipment, and materials, ensuring adequate stock levels of consumables. You will need to ensure the appearance of pitches, trees, shrubs, and flowers are kept free from harmful insect’s and plant diseases.

To ensure success you need to use your multitasking abilities to meet required maintenance standards for our grounds at all times. The candidate will be hard working, detail orientated and organised.

The role:

To maintain the pitches and surrounding areas at Kingston Park Stadium to support the busy grounds team at Newcastle Falcons. The successful candidate will complement our established grounds team with the high standards of grounds care.

Reporting to the Head Groundsperson we are looking to recruit an experienced, motivated, enthusiastic grounds person.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining conditions and appearance of our 3G and grass pitches, grounds and practice fields in accordance with elite sporting levels required for Premiership Rugby and Rugby League status.
  • Laying out and marking playing fields for rugby union, rugby league and football.
  • Mowing watering and fertilising pitches.
  • Planting, trimming, mulching, and fertilising flowers, shrubs and trees.
  • Keeping pitches free from snow and ice by using equipment such as snow blowers.
  • Responsibility for pitch protection in adverse weather.
  • Keeping pitches free from litter, debris, and weeds.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment and materials.
  • Following applicable safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Manage and audit all equipment required to undertake all pitch preparation.
  • All other roles as deemed appropriate by the Chair of Rugby.
  • Working with hazardous equipment

Requirements:

  • Proven track record as Grounds person or in similar position
  • Proficient with operating groundskeeping equipment such as tractors, and power mowers
  • Good communication skills.
  • Physically fit, strong, agile, and dexterous
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Microsoft skills desirable but not essential

People dimensions:

Comfortable in a team environment and motivated to work independently.
