Groundskeeping or turf operative apprenticeship offered

Plumpton College in the UK has launched a level 2 groundskeeping or greenkeeping sports turf operative apprenticeship. The apprenticeship is open to individuals aged 16 and over who are employed in a sports turf environment, whether that’s a golf course, school, sports club, or local authority.

According to a statement, the apprenticeship is ideal for those at the start of their journey in groundskeeping or greenkeeping, or for existing staff looking to develop their skills further.

A career in this field can be incredibly varied, with opportunities to work across multiple sports and facilities, including football, rugby, cricket, tennis, horse racing, athletics, public parks and first-class stadia.

Course Information

Start date: 17 September 2025
Location: Plumpton College, near Lewes, East Sussex
Who’s it for? Grounds staff and greenkeepers at the start of their careers, or existing staff looking to upskill.
Delivery: A mix of college-based training and on-the-job learning, typically over 18–24 months.
Funding: 95–100% of the training cost covered by the government (depending on business size).
Support: Plumpton College offers a dedicated team to assist with administration and recruitment.
