Under the guidance of our expert Sports Turf team, you’ll gain hands-on experience preparing and maintaining world-class cricket pitches and training areas while working towards a Level 2 Sports Turf Operative qualification We’re looking for a team player with a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn. This role is perfect for someone with a genuine interest in turf care, gardening, or landscaping – even if you’re just starting out.
Job description
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of cricket playing surfaces, outfields, practice pitches, and net areas to ensure they are in top condition for training and matches.
- Assist with placing and removing covers on pitches, and clear surface water or debris from the playing area as directed, especially during adverse weather, to keep games and training on schedule.
- Learn to operate and maintain ground care equipment (e.g. mowers, rollers, scarifiers, aerators) under supervision, always following standard operating and safety procedures.
- Support the grounds team in tasks like mowing, watering, fertilising, aeration, and renovating worn areas of the turf, gaining experience in cricket turf management practices.
- Assist in setting up and marking out playing areas (such as creases, boundaries, and practice areas) in accordance with cricket regulations and match requirements
- Participate fully in the apprenticeship’s learning program.
Requirements
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 including math and English or a Vocational qualification level 1, plus GCSE D/3 in both math and English – NB English and Math Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.
