Introduction

Our site is seeking an experienced and highly motivated grounds manager to lead the maintenance, management, and development of our world-class football turf pitches and the overall venue landscaping. This role is critical to ensuring that all sports surfaces and landscaped areas meet the highest standards of safety, playability, and aesthetic excellence, supporting our reputation as a premier sports and entertainment destination.

Job description

  • The grounds manager will lead a team of grounds staff, coordinate maintenance schedules, and implement best practices in turf management and landscaping to support the venue’s reputation as a world-class sports and entertainment destination.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of turf maintenance for natural and synthetic football pitches, ensuring surfaces are safe, durable, and compliant with international sports standards.
  • Oversee the care and upkeep of the venue’s landscaped areas, including gardens, lawns, pathways, and outdoor facilities, to maintain a pristine and welcoming environment.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive maintenance schedules, seasonal programs, and emergency response plans for turf and landscaping.
  • Collaborate with event and venue teams to prepare grounds for sporting events, concerts, and other activities, ensuring readiness and quality standards.
  • Lead the design, costing, and management of in-house sports turf construction projects and landscaping developments.
  • Manage the grounds maintenance team, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, machinery, and labor for various tasks.
  • Oversee site waste and scrap removal, ensuring that all waste is disposed of properly and in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Approve and track expenditures related to turf and landscaping projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with management objectives.
  • Set annual capex and operating budgets to comply with management objectives and site development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management, Sports Turf Science, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
  • Certification in Turf Management, Sports Grounds Maintenance, or a related qualification is highly preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience in sports turf management, grounds maintenance, or landscape management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in managing sports pitches, including maintenance and development, with a strong understanding of turf science, soil health, irrigation, and pest management.
  • Experienced in managing warm and cool season turf grass surfaces
  • In-depth knowledge of turfgrass science, including soil health, irrigation, fertilisation, aeration, pest and disease control, and turf repair for both natural and synthetic surfaces.
  • Experience in budgeting, project management, and coordinating with multiple departments and stakeholders.
  • Communication and Team Leadership skills
