Certification body Kiwa ISA Sport has authorised LMB Sports to supply its Granobase Sport and Granobase Football materials under certification moving forward. Instead of conducting inspections on-site at project locations individually, Kiwa ISA Sport will now assess the quality of the materials directly at the production facility.

Both products are used as a technical base layer for artificial turf sports fields.
“Granobase Football allows for the construction of a subbase of just 6 cm. That’s unique in the market,” says Arthur Bink of LMB Sports. “There is no other standardised mineral subbase material that can create a fully functional sports surface at this thickness. Less material, less excavation, lower transport volumes, and therefore lower CO2 emissions. Sustainable construction starts at the foundation,” he emphasises.
Thanks to these properties, the materials are expected to retain their quality over the long term and ensure effective drainage. “The material is also widely used in road construction, where it is known to remain effective even after 50 years. After those 50 years, 95% of the material is still suitable for reuse. This will soon also apply to the base layer of an artificial turf sports field.” The material could therefore still serve as a base material for an artificial turf sports field, even after 50 years.

The agreement between LMB Sports and Kiwa ISA Sport is intended to benefit the sports field contractor in particular. “It has been agreed that the Kiwa ISA Sport inspector will periodically take a random sample of the material at the production site to determine whether it still meets the specifications provided to us by LMB Sports. Thanks to this quality assurance method, sports field contractors no longer have to wait for the inspector’s approval after installing the technical layer; instead, they can immediately proceed with finishing the artificial turf field,” explains Sander van der Holst of Kiwa ISA Sport, highlighting the added value of this agreement. “This removes a potential stumbling block that could lead to delays in the completion process of an artificial turf field.”
According to van der Holst, the client can also assume that a “subject to inspection” delivery ensures that these materials will continue to meet the specifications listed. “This provides an objective means of ensuring quality assurance and performance reliability within sports facilities.”
