GKB Machines has introduced its own leaf blower at the BTME trade fair in the UK. The GKB LB100 is a response to market developments and user requirements.

The LB100 builds on existing units which GKB has enriched with its own experience and knowledge. “This machine is designed to remove fallen leaves and other organic material from golf courses, sports fields and public green areas. We also explicitly kept the growing acceptance of mineral-filled synthetic turf systems in mind,” explains Jan-Willem Kraaijeveld of GKB Machines.

For example, the LB100 is equipped with a lightweight metal fan. “This allows the user to use a lightweight tractor instead of being dependant on a heavy duty tractor. That will be better for the surface and more comfortable to work with.” According to Kraaijeveld, the unit weighs 360 kg and can be used with a tractor with an engine power of around 40 HP.

The air capacity of the unit is 380m3/min. The 87.5 cm large light metal fan was designed by Kraaijeveld senior and is about 15 to 20% lighter than those used in conventional leaf blowers. “He is still closely involved and regularly shares his knowledge in the workshop or design department,” says the current director of the family business.

More forgiving for the environment

The latest addition from GKB Machines is equipped with foam-filled tyres and an anti-scalp roller. “Flat tyres are therefore a thing of the past and the anti-scalp roller prevents damage to undulating terrain.” The blower can blow out on both the left and right side and is hydraulically operated. The working width is 150 cm. “That means that you can have a football field leaf-free within 10 minutes.”

The blowing force can be regulated using the tractor’s RPM.

“The blower is powerful enough to blow away leaves lying on a field without actually disturbing the stabilizing sand at the bottom of a synthetic turf surface.”

GKB saw opportunities for its own machine once a major producer withdrew itself from the market. “This left many of our dealers with a gap in their offering. Not only have we now closed that gap, we have also strengthened the range of products they offer.”
