Ghana’s Vice President calls for external pitch maintenance support

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana and flagbearer of the ruling party, has included the need for international standard pitches in his manifesto for the upcoming elections.

Despite having several stadia, only the Baba Yara Stadium has been approved to host CAF and FIFA matches.

Bawumia spoke at a media session.

“One of the problems we have is the lack of maintenance of our pitches,” he said. He believes that experts need to be brought into Ghana to manage pitches and to train local groundsmen.

“The pitches we currently have are difficult to play on. We need international standard pitches. I believe we need professional management to maintain these pitches. We also need to train people and bring in experts in pitch maintenance.”
