England Hockey has officially launched the opening phase of a GBP 4 million fund designed to upgrade community sports facilities across the country.
Known as the Pitch Together Fund, the scheme places particular emphasis on synthetic turf pitches, described as versatile, year-round spaces that support local health and community connection. The funding is intended to help refurbish pitches nationwide, with the ultimate aim of boosting participation through higher-quality, more sustainable facilities.
To deliver the programme, England Hockey has partnered with social enterprise Sporting Assets, which will administer the fund. Backing comes from Sport England alongside a loan facility provided by Triodos Bank UK. According to an announcement, the fund is expected to make a significant difference across England.
Beyond capital investment, the initiative also offers support to clubs in building business plans and maximising their impact on local communities. Grants are additionally available to cover the cost of recycling old pitches, reflecting a commitment to environmental as well as social responsibility.
Loans issued under the scheme are expected to average around GBP 150,000, with repayment terms of up to seven-and-a-half years with interest rates set at 6%.
