While construction on the new football stadium of Everton FC is still continuing, its pitch is slowly taking shape. Grass is growing inside the bowl already. Last week the field was reinforced with synthetic turf.
In August, an impermeable protective membrane was rolled out to provide a base layer for the undersoil heating and water storage system. On top of the membrane, a fusion-weld liner was installed to form a watertight base level and a layered drainage system that allows for water storage for irrigation to allow Everton FC using the harvested rainwater to irrigate the surface.
This layer has been covered with gravel to ensure a layer that is robust enough to avoid damaging the drainage system below.
Atop this, the undersoil heating pipes are laid in rows to cover the entire playing area, before the lower and upper rootzones will be installed.
Last week, the stitching machines of SIS Pitches reinforced the pitch by injection synthetic yarns every 2cm, 18cm deep.
The new stadium will become the home ground of Everton FC from the start of the 2025/2026 season.
