Digital training option for pitch maintenance in Sweden

To make this expertise regarding the maintenance of natural turf football pitches more accessible, Svensk Jordelit AB, in partnership with the Swedish Football Association, SvFF, has introduced a digital training option for pitch maintenance staff working in football clubs and local authorities.

Starting in 2025, the Level 1 Natural Grass Pitch Maintenance course will be available digitally, giving participants the chance to gain essential pitch-care knowledge without attending a traditional classroom course.

The training will cover aspects like understanding soil and choosing the right grass varieties to managing irrigation, nutrients and disease, proper pitch maintenance demands knowledge, skill and the right techniques.

Learn at own convenience

With digital training now available, football clubs and local authorities have an easier and more flexible way to build the knowledge needed to keep their pitches healthy, safe and ready for the game because behind every great goal, there’s a great pitch and now, the knowledge to care for it is just a click away.

One of the biggest advantages of digital learning is flexibility. Participants can complete the approximately 90-minute course at a time that suits them, without the need to travel or rearrange their daily schedules.

Despite being delivered online, the course doesn’t compromise on content, the organisers claim. Participants receive the same essential knowledge covered in the traditional Level 1 programme, equipping them with practical skills to maintain natural grass football pitches to a high standard.

Participants can also receive advice directly from Jordelit, one of Sweden’s leading lawn-care specialists, helping them find answers to questions and challenges related to grass and pitch maintenance.

The training provides a broad introduction to key areas of natural grass pitch maintenance, including:

– Soil testing and soil science

– Grass varieties and sowing

– Mowing, nutrients and fertilisers

– Diseases, aeration and verticutting

– Trimming, collection and irrigation

– Ground cover, maintenance programmes and costs

Traditional option remains

While digital learning offers flexibility, face-to-face training hasn’t disappeared. Football clubs and organisations that prefer an on-site learning experience can still book the Level 1 course as a traditional classroom programme.
