Chinese turf partner for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur has announced a partnership with Citygreen Sports Group from China to become the official synthetic turf supplier to the club for the 2024/25 season.

The Club will be working with Citygreen on the installation of a new synthetic pitch at their training centre in Enfield to provide an environmentally friendly surface that improves the quality of training sessions and supports player development.
The company, fully known as Guangdong Citygreen Sports Industry, is a FIFA-licenced turf producer. For the FIFA-register it uses the name HuBei Citygreen Sports Industry. According to the register, Citygreen Sports Industry has installed five FIFA Quality (Pro) surfaces since April 2023. Except the one in Ethiopia, all installations were in China.

All academy teams

The synthetic turf pitch serves the men’s and women’s Academy teams and community events year-round.

Paul May, Training Centre Director of Operations, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “It is fantastic to be working with Citygreen for the forthcoming season as we look to further enhance the facilities at our world-class training centre. This partnership will help the development of players that visit the campus throughout the year, as well as aligning with our mission to reduce our environmental impact across Club activities.”

Remarkable

The decision by Tottenham Hotspurs is remarkable as Europe has synthetic turf suppliers in abundance. The synthetic turf surface inside its stadium that is used for American Football games, was supplied by Tarkett Sports. Tottenham Hotspurs has not explained why it selected a supplier from China and one with limited proven experience. Spurs still proudly fly the flag of being ‘the greenest club in the Premier League’.
