Belgian soap to be continued

The City of Brussels has announced that it is considering legal action against those responsible for maintaining the surface at the national stadium. Last week, the poor condition of the field forced the Belgian FA to move its Euro-qualifier against Serbia to a different venue.

The decision had some major consequences.

It has now come to light that the contract with the groundsman who had been looking after the Koning Boudewijn Stadium field since 2009 had been terminated, with immediate effect in August this year.

According to the City of Brussels, several suspicious elements have now come to light regarding the maintenance of the field. Due to the significance of the poor workmanship conducted and the suspicious circumstances in which these have been taking place, the city is now considering taking legal action.

The groundsman who was sacked blames the concerts the city has been hosting inside the stadium. These concerts take place several times per season.

Since last week, two more members of the grounds crew have been sacked.
