The Bank of Ghana is committed to supporting golf activities in the country. Where necessary, the bank will provide assistance to invest in and improve infrastructure, the bank’s governor told the audience at the 3i Africa Summit 2026 Golf Tournament.
The governor, Dr Johnson Asiama, agreed that this would also require support from the government, corporate bodies and international partners. The latter should provide the lawns and other facilities needed to meet international standards.
“For us at the Bank of Ghana, we believe this (the 3i Africa Summit 2026 Golf Tournament) is a good initiative to support. Going forward, we will encourage more and more people to get involved in golf. I was having a conversation with my good friend, senior brother Frank, and I challenged him that we can host a world tournament. Who says we cannot? If we put our minds to it, it is possible,” he said.
“It is about getting a new course somewhere, involving government, associating with a good cause and seeing international support.” He reckoned the idea could become reality within three years.
Dr Asiama called on the public to get involved in golf to make the dream a reality.
Ghana has approximately 15 golf courses but a population of 35 million people. Historically, football, boxing, athletics and basketball have been the most popular sports.
The country has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons, high year-round temperatures and regional differences between the wetter south and the drier north.
