Introduction

This position is responsible for the care, maintenance, and renovation of all  athletic fields and grounds on our campus, as well as assisting with fields and grounds maintenance on the main campus. This position reports to the athletic field manager.

Job description

  • Develop and implement plans, policies, and procedures for successful maintenance of all athletic fields and grounds .
  • Collaborate with Athletic field manager, as well as facilities services managers as necessary, to develop and manage budget for field maintenance equipment and supplies for the  Campus.
  • Purchase, maintain, and manage inventory of field maintenance equipment and supplies for our Campus.
  • Manage mowing and irrigation system on the the Campus.
  • Monitor and manage all riparian areas.
  • Monitor and assess tree maintenance on property as necessary, including ensuring no negative impact of trees to construction or field maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the coaches to determine optimal playing conditions for each team and execute plan to achieve those conditions.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, guidelines and standards for the athletic fields.
  • Collaborate with recreational services to determine optimal field conditions for club and intramural practices and competitions.
  • Manage and coordinate work of technical consultants and/or contractors.
  • Supervise and train seasonal and/or student employees. Supervisory responsibilities include: hiring processes; setting of clear and measurable expectations; departmental communications with employees; training, development, and mentorship; performance management and evaluations; and disciplinary processes including termination of employment.
  • May be required to drive student athletes and/or other University personnel to practice, games or other functions.

Requirements

  • Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Plant Science, Horticulture, or equivalent discipline.
  • Two years of relevant experience, inclusive of work with soccer turf management and/or grounds experience.
  • Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Oregon State commercial pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
  • Active driver’s license
