Three divisions of GKB Group are celebrating their anniversaries today, and Barendrecht is marking the occasion in style.
The family business began in 1946, when Jan and Pieter-Arie Kraaijeveld laid the foundation for GKB Group. They started out cutting reeds and rushes in the willow plantations and harvesting brushwood, which was used to make items such as chairs. Willow wood, in turn, was used in the Delta Works and for dike reinforcement.
Over the years, nine children of Jan and Pieter-Arie joined the company. Today it has grown into a major builder of all kinds of machines for constructing and maintaining sports fields, golf courses and public green spaces. There is also a division that specializes in metalworking. GKB Group itself works as a contractor, for example on the construction of sports fields. The company is now run by 20 family members.

A week of celebrations
On 30 September, GKB Group celebrates its 80th anniversary. GKB Machines turns 40 today, while GKB Machines Ltd in England celebrates its 10th anniversary. Family and dealers from all over the world are celebrating the anniversary at the head office in Barendrecht, the Netherlands. On Wednesday 30 September, there is a program of presentations, a factory tour and a barbecue.
On Thursday, there will be a demonstration at Cromstrijen golf course in Numansdorp while Friday 2 October has been reserved for the employees’ party.
