Act Sports has developed a woven hybrid turf solution. The product will be available for installing in situ or harvesting as a lay-and-play option. To facilitate a quality lay-and-play product, the company has signed a partnership with turf farms in Eastern Europe, the Netherlands and the UK.
Hybrid turf solutions combine the advantages of a synthetic turf reinforcement with the ball behavior and player experience of a natural turf.
Act Sports’s Juventa is a woven hybrid surface. “It has the superior durability, player comfort, and player safety of woven turf with the performance and player-surface interaction of natural grass,” says Friso van den Berg of Act Sports.
Better sustainability
The absence of a secondary backing makes a woven synthetic turf product more sustainable than its tufted equivalent. “Both the backing and yarns are made of the same PE-polymer, making it easier to recycle once this carpet-based hybrid turf is removed.”
As it is a carpet-based hybrid turf, the carpet produces less pollution, compared to stitched hybrid products, van den Berg claims. When removed, the synthetic turf yarns from a stitched surface have to be filtered out, whereas a carpet-based hybrid surface can be lifted virtually intact.
